A LIFE SHAPED BY THE WAY OF THE WARRIOR
For KAIZEN, the path to storytelling began long before the founding of a film production company. It began in the dojo, where the discipline of Japanese martial arts would shape his understanding of character, purpose, and the human spirit.
Introduced to martial arts at the age of four, KAIZEN began his formal training at five under Shihan Taka Hashi. Shihan is a Japanese title of respect for a senior martial arts teacher, often translated as “master instructor.”
Under his guidance,
KAIZEN was introduced to Bushido—the way of the warrior—and the principles that would become central to his life: honor, discipline, focus, and respect. The dojo became more than a place of physical training. It was where he learned that strength requires restraint, discipline is developed through repetition, and respect is demonstrated through action. These teachings became values he would continue to practice and refine throughout his life.
Years into his journey, KAIZEN was mentored by the late “Cary” Hiroyuki Tagawa, the Japanese-American actor, producer, screenwriter, and martial artist. Through their relationship, Tagawa introduced him to the principles of Zen Buddhism, including inner peace, mindfulness, and the importance of maintaining clarity and focus.
These teachings gave KAIZEN a deeper understanding of how the discipline of Bushido and the contemplative principles of Zen could work together. The warrior’s code provided a foundation for action and responsibility, while Zen encouraged awareness, balance, and the ability to approach life with a clear mind.
Over time, KAIZEN learned to bring these principles together in his own life. They shaped his approach to adversity, his dedication to continual improvement, and his belief that discipline and creativity are not opposing forces, but complementary parts of a meaningful journey.
As his creative interests developed, KAIZEN became increasingly drawn to cinema as a medium through which he could explore human conflict, moral choices, sacrifice, and the consequences of the paths people choose.
His passion for storytelling grew from this fusion of martial arts, personal philosophy, and creative imagination. What began as a lifelong pursuit of discipline and self-understanding eventually became a vision for creating original stories that could connect with audiences through character, emotion, and cinematic experience.
That vision gave birth to Bushido Legacy Films.
As the original founder and storyteller, KAIZEN established the company to develop original motion pictures and intellectual property with a commitment to compelling storytelling, cinematic ambition, and creative excellence.
Together with his wife, Allison De La Cruz, co-founder and creative owner, he is building a production company dedicated to bringing original stories to audiences around the world.
